The many proccedings since reading last.

Well lets see. Quite a bit has gone on since last I really wrote so I will just jump right in. It all started with a trip to Jackson Hole. It was a huge group of us mostly seasoned river guides and mostly rafters. We go there late. woke up early and after a quick run into town for som grub i.e. blueberries for me. We put on to the snake river section above alpine junction. A relavtive mellow float for seasoned guides but still a good time. My brother Matt, good friends Carson, and Jake joined me in kayaking. We procceded down river playing here and there then the rapid Big Kahoona came. So we partook of some great surfing for about 45 minutes. Now if you know me at all in these situations you will know that I get supper excited over stuff like this and I wont nay cannot stop smiling, thats how my face was for the rest of the day. After finishing this section and a quick bite to eat it was off to the Greys. A mild creeking section clas 1 to 4's. This section is for kayakers only. We were inclined to drop down throw little slots over boulders and through waves all the while laughing and enjoying every bit of it. Infact we enjoyed ourselves so much that we went right back to the top for a second run. Now my good frined Carson explains it like this. "When I kayak with most people we do maybe two runs a day but when I kayak with Marcus I endup doing a hell of alot more." Implying that we went for more. This time we headed back to the Big Kahoona wave for some park and play. We stayed and surfed for about 2 hours doing flat spins, blunts, and cartwheels. We deffinetly got window shaded shaded a few times. We paddled to the point that I could barely lift my arms. This is the deffinition of a good day to me. After a good well deserved nights sleep we headed to a new river that none of us had ever been down.We had heard great things about the Gros Ventur pronounced (grovaunt) and it was fun but did not live up to the hype. Atleast not at the level that we saw it at. The best part of this section was that you could see the top of the Grand Teton the entire time. From here it was back to S.L.C. AKA Salt Lake City. Here I attended a good climbing buddies bachlor party. Then it was on to Moab. I ran a great trip down West Water Canyon. The next day back to SLC for the wedding. Quickly back to Moab to rig for the Main Salmon in Idaho. From here it was back to SLC for the night. Then on to the Salmon. My good friend Shad and I rigged out the boats the night before. Were visited by a Moose as we slept. He joined us for a cool drink a few times later in the trip a black bear came during the night. I was to out cold to have seen it. That morning we met our passangers. Four great families from across the US. We had an amazing trip. One of the best I have ever had. We had good whitewater, hot weather, good conversation, and great food. My personal favorite part of the trip was a young man by the name of Jake. Now Jake is only 17 years old. So by law he cannot get a tattoo so being the talented young man that he is he fashioned a tattoo gun out of a motorized toothbrush, a guitar string, and ink of course. He gave himself a tattoo that looks profesional. One night we got to talking about it and we ended up tattooing each other with a marker. Our Arms were covered in ink. Anyways, The trip was amazing. I was so glad to be back on the Salmon river. Yet it was my only salmon trip of the season. A seaon that was cut short because of the lack of bookings. So I procceded back to SLC. From there Carson and I decided that since he had just purchased a new creek boat that we had to take it out for a spin. Our origanl idea was the Murtaugh in Southern Idaho. We read the guage wrong and thought that it was lower then it actually was. So we headed to the Payettes. 7:00 am sunday morning we are off. 7 hours later we are putting on to the south fork of the Payette. One of my all time favorites. Some of the best class 3 to 4 you can paddle in the country. Me in my play boat and Carson in his creek boat. We just had a great time. I had my first inccedent with flipping an hitting the bottom. I attempted a pretty standered trick for me what is known as a wave wheel. Didn't quite get the rotation and went over into the water. I went into a back deck roll and cracked my elbow on a rock HARD! Stung it pretty good but was fine just a slite brused bone. After taking out we got some dinner and met some friends for some hot sprining. We soaked and chatted for a few hours. Sleep was taunting us so we went into town really quick. I was hopping to have gotten a voice mail which I did. I called her back but didn't get to talk long. It still made my day. We both slept really well that night. Even with the knowledge that come morning we were going to paddle the North Fork of the Payette. The longest continuous section of white water in the US. The average drop per mile of the Colorado river is something like 12 feet. For the Green is some thing like 4 feet. The North Fork of the Payette it is 104 feet per mile. A raging torrent if you will. Now we don't run the entire thing we. Like life to much and frankly just aren't good enough for the really narly section up top. We run a section called the lower 5. This is one of those types of thing that you can explain a million times but it just cannot be grasped till you actually try it. From the road this section looks big but not to bad. Its different once you are into it. For me this is my second time down this river for Carson his first. We put on in a calmer section which is class 3 and imediatly hit a huge class 4. I take lead because A) I have done this section before and B) I love the Adrineline rush of having to be the one that picks the line and C) Carson has a kid on the way. After I have a beautiful run through this monsterous 4 I pull over to wait for Carson. He decided to pull over really quick to ask some local guys if it was the right line. Which it was. For me at the bottom it was going through my head that he either pinned on a rock of he swam. but where was he. After a moment of wondering if I was going to have to tell his pregnant that I got her husband killed he came through with flying colors. From here it is constant class 3 to 4 for a few miles. In your head you are literally thinking when am I going to get a break my arms are tired. A short break comes. The calm before the storm, because immediatly after there is a class 5. Which if you don't know the line you are in for some hurt. We crusied it. It was the most uneventful rapid of the day. Then the fun began right by the road are two sections that are continuous 4 to 5 level dependent. the upper one you start far left then move to the center. If you go center or right the you get eaten. We greased the top line and moved to the center where I dropped into a huge wave and though I hit it as square as I could it just trashed me and I was upside down for 3/4 of the rapid. Not really the best spot to be in in a 4 or 5. I rolled back up to see if Carson was good and he had no problems what so ever. Then the seconed section similar to the last only start far right then head to the center. These two sections work like this you drop into the biggest waves and get pounded when you crest the wave you are trying frantically to see whats down stream but by the time you really get a chance to look you are getting smacked by the next wave. If you are following someones line you quickly realize that this vertually impossible because you literally can only catch a glimpse of the persons helmut or paddle every once in a while. Man is it a huge rush. This section Makes Me Giddy! Back to the quote by Carson about paddling more when he boats with me. Well if this wasn't enough adrinaline we procceded back to the Suth Fork of the Payette. We ran this one with some new firends that we had met. Molly, Charlie, and Mark. Two were locals whom had never paddled that section before and Mark was an old surffing bum. We had an amazing time showing them the lines and goofing around. From there it was back to SLC were I am once again framing houses. Today for work we went up and enjoyed a day of wakeboarding were I hurt my knee. It was completely worth it. Sorry this was a long entry I will make them shorter in the future. I have a good adventure coming up so there should be a great story to follow.
